Welcome to Tom's Woodcrafts!
The first question everyone asks when they see my finished work is "How do you make those?"
Bowls are constructed from many smaller pieces of wood glued together
in rings and then stacked one on top of the other and turned on a lathe.
This process is what creates the various patterns and visual effects.
Segmented turning demands precision woodworking skills, turning skills
and a lot of patience. It may take weeks and sometimes months to create
one unique piece.
The slide show below gives you an overview of the process from start to finish.
Please visit the techniques & tips page for a more detailed explanation of the turning process.
